Parent coaching for parents of teens and young adults

For the parent who has tried everything and is running on empty. We work on you, your home and what happens next, so you can find some calm again even when your young person is not making great choices.

What we work on

Coaching for parents who are worn out

You are the one I work with. Your teen or young adult does not need to agree to anything for things at home to start shifting.

  • When the house revolves around one person

Every plan, every mood and every evening shaped by how one young person is doing. We work on getting your home back.

  • Knowing what is yours to control

You cannot make their choices for them. You can decide what happens in your home when they make them. That shift changes a lot.

  • Boundaries that actually hold

House rules that survive the first argument, and a way of keeping them without the shouting.

  • A young adult who has not launched

Twenty-something, still at home, and everyone stuck. We work out how to help them move forward without it blowing up.

  • When substances are part of it

I have spent most of my career working with substance use. You will not have to explain the basics or defend your worry.

  • Getting on the same page

When two parents see it differently, the young person notices. We get you aligned on what you want and how you will handle it.

What parent coaching actually is

Parent coaching is support for you as the parent. We look at what is happening at home, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different, then build a plan you can actually follow.

It is practical and forward looking. We spend less time on why things got this way and more on what you are going to do on Tuesday night when it happens again.

It also works from anywhere. I coach parents across the country by video, and because you are the client, it does not matter where your young person lives or whether they are willing to take part.

Is it the same as therapy?

No. I am a licensed therapist in Texas, but coaching is a different service. It focuses on you, your decisions and your home, rather than diagnosing or treating anyone. If your young person needs therapy, I will tell you, and help you find the right support.

Who you would be working with

Meet Allie

I am Allie Haydon, a parent coach and licensed therapist, and I have spent fifteen years working with teenagers, young adults and the parents trying to hold things together around them.

I have worked at every level of care there is, from residential and intensive outpatient to alternative peer groups and recovery high schools. I have sat with a lot of frightened parents, and I know how lonely this can feel.

What I care about most is helping you find peace, grounding and a sense of your own footing as a parent, even on the weeks your young person is not making great choices.

I am a straight shooter, and I use humor when a moment is dark enough to need it. Most parents tell me that is the part that helps.

What is included

What my parent coaching services include

Every family is different, so the work is shaped around yours. These are the things we come back to most.

  • Regular one-to-one sessions by video, from wherever you are

  • A clear picture of what is and is not in your control

  • Home boundaries you can actually keep

  • A shared plan when there are two (or more) parents involved

  • Support around independence for young adults still at home

  • Joint sessions with your young adult, when that would help

How it works

How online parent coaching works

Three steps, and you can change your mind at any of them.

  • Get in touch

Fill in the form or give me a call. Tell me roughly what is going on at home, in as much or as little detail as you like.

  • A short consultation

A short chat to see whether coaching is the right fit for you. If something else would help more, I will say so.

  • Start coaching

We meet by secure video, wherever you are in the country. No commute, no waiting room.

Tired of feeling like you are failing?

You are not. You are doing something hard without a plan. That is exactly what this is for.

Who I work with

If any of this sounds familiar

A few of the things parents tell me when they first get in touch.

  • "I don't recognize my own house"

Doors slamming, walking on eggshells, and every conversation turning into a fight. You want to feel at peace in your own home again.

  • "We can't agree on what to do"

One of you wants to be stricter, the other wants to give more room, and your teenager has worked out exactly how to use the gap.

  • "They're 24 and nothing is moving"

You love them, you are worried about them, and you are quietly exhausted from carrying them. You do not know how to help without making it worse.

Coaching or therapy?

Not sure which one you need?

Coaching is for you as a parent, and it is available wherever you live. Therapy is for your teen, young adult or the whole family, and because therapy licenses work state by state, I can offer it to families in Texas.

If you are in Texas and think your family needs therapy rather than coaching, have a look at family therapy in Houston or online therapy across Texas. If you are not sure, book a consultation and we will work it out together.

You do not have to wait until it is a crisis

Parents often tell me they wish they had reached out six months earlier. There is no threshold you need to reach first.
