Life coaching for young adults
Nobody hands you a plan for your twenties. Coaching is a standing hour to work out what you actually want and then start moving toward it, with someone who is not your parent and not your boss.
What we work on
The part of adulthood nobody taught you
We start with whatever is most relevant in your life right now, not a personality test.
-
Direction
The job, the degree you are not sure about, the career you fell into. Working out what you actually want before you commit another two years to it.
-
Momentum
You know what needs doing. It still is not happening. We work on the gap between those two things, in steps small enough to survive a bad week.
-
Independence
Living on your own terms, handling your own life decisions, and setting boundaries with family without it turning into a fight every time.
-
Relationships
Friendships that thinned out after school, dating, and working out which people are actually good for you.
Understanding the options
What a young adult life coach actually does
We meet regularly, you bring what is going on, and we work out what you are doing about it. You set the goals. I ask the questions that sharpen them, then I help keep you on track.
It is forward looking. Less time on why things are the way they are, more on what would make this month better than last month.
Is this therapy?
No. I am a licensed therapist in Texas, but coaching is a separate service. Coaching is about goals, decisions and follow through. Therapy treats mental health conditions. If what you are carrying needs therapy, I will say so plainly and help you find the right person rather than keep you in coaching.
If substance use is part of the picture, that is a different conversation too, and there is support for that here.
Who you would be working with
Meet Allie
I am Allie Haydon, and I have spent fifteen years working with young adults and the families around them. Residential programs, outpatient work, alternative peer groups and recovery high schools, so very little lands as a surprise.
I am a straight shooter. I will tell you what I actually think rather than what sounds supportive, and I use humor when things get heavy. Most people I work with say that is why they kept showing up.
I am not here to tell you what your twenties should look like. I am here to help you work out what you want them to look like and then make that happen.
How it works
How coaching works
Three steps, and you can change your mind at any of them.
-
Get in touch
Tell me roughly what is going on, in as much or as little detail as you want.
-
A short consultation
Fifteen minutes to see whether this feels right. No pressure and no commitment if it does not.
-
Start coaching
We meet by video and start with whatever matters most to you first.
Not sure if this is for you?
Most people are not sure at first. A short conversation costs nothing and you will know quickly.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
-
Roughly eighteen to thirty, though it is more about where you are than how old you are. If you are younger than that, coaching for teenagers is the better fit.
-
Coaching is about goals, decisions and getting moving. It does not diagnose or treat anything. If therapy would serve you better, I will tell you rather than keep you in coaching.
-
Usually weekly or biweekly. Some people come for a handful of sessions to get through one specific decision. Others want regular support over a few months. We agree on a plan in the consultation and will adjust as needed.
-
That is common and it is fine. The sessions are still yours and what you say in them stays between us. A Release of Information is obtained from you to only discuss payment with them. If your parents want support of their own, parent coaching is a separate service and the work there is with them.
